Pros

The mission is very honorable, there is something uniquely different about working to help others and working for just a paycheck. You meet a wide variety of people from different backgrounds.

Cons

HQ needs a complete makeover. Instead of laying off employees every quarter, HQ should reevaluate its leadership. The organization is also stuck in the past, refusing to move along with the times. It lacks a connection with the younger generation, who will eventually be their key financial supporters. Total lack of respect for chapter employees, the ones who are out in the field and doing all the grunt work. Employees who hold leadership roles do not respect their lower rung employees. Lack of growth potential, no encouragement to succeed.

Pros

Because you believe in the mission. Your personal knowledge that you're doing something for the greater good.

Cons

Never any positive feedback from employers, you're only aware of your job performance when something is wrong, and then it's probably to late. It's the humanitarian organization that can't take care of its own people.

Pros

the ablility to make a positive difference in the world and to save lives. You can also affect change in the organization.

Cons

the whole not-for-profit thing and lack/cutback mentality gets old. It's used too often as an excuse for why we can't change. We often put the cart before the horse by making pronouncements of projects and timelines that are unrealistic. I've often heard the term "things happen in Red Cross Time".
