Pros

- Decent salary and benefits - Family friendly culture - If you are unhappy with your team or projects, management will work with you to try to find you a better fit

Cons

- This is not a role for software engineers. Object oriented programming concepts such as design patterns and the SOLID principles never come up at all. Most of the work is very repetitive. You will spend a lot of time using code generators to create fields in the CMS admin. It feels a lot like manual data entry in this respect. Custom challenges and opportunities to solve problems, while not unheard of, are rare. - Time card system that micromanages you by requiring 8 hours of billable work. - Overtly political owners. Company-wide meetings is not an appropriate place to discuss politics.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. There are many opportunities to apply both functional and object oriented programming design patterns and principles. As noted by the original poster, management is very flexible in finding a better project/team fit if you are unhappy. Technical management in particular, is always very open to push developers out of their comfort zone to help them grow.

Pros

You get to work on some big clients. CMS is pretty cleverly designed - if you put in the effort, you really get a good idea of how a professional CMS is put together. Coworkers are nice. Good neighborhood. Lots of restaurants nearby.

Cons

No roadmap for advancement. Low pay. Middling benefits. Paranoia that you're going to be the next scapegoat. Lots of micromanaging and looking over your shoulder. Little opportunity for growth. Confused management - people get promoted beyond their level of competence. Hypocritical management - giving when it makes them look good, less so when they have to deal with the consequences. Long hours. High employee turnover. You won't advance unless you give up the rest of your life. Sites are frequently unambitious - you'll spend more time trudging through someone else's old broken code than you will pursuing interesting challenges. Management promises the world to clients, and employees suffer. Company owner has a right-wing blog operated by the company (http://usainexile.com/) - you'll semi-frequently be exposed to right-wing propaganda.

Pros

Private, right-winged and brings in a diverse group of clientele. Sales team brings in everything from small mom & pop shops to multi-billion dollar clients like Weather Tech. Open-minded to the tools used to get the job done. Always open to ideas!

Cons

Flat organizational structure - don't expect to rise ranks easily here. Waterfall development methodology, projects are rarely Agile. HR is a 5-6 person show, informal, sometimes takes days to respond and does not feel like they'd advocate for you. Sweatshop work environment. Expect to work 1-3 hours past the normal workday. Service focused, most projects have scope creep. Lack of company culture. This company was great for the original maybe 500 employees, but now that its a midsize to large business, there's really no culture embraced here. The company has done a terrible job involving the new hires during the lockdown and even veteran new hires who bring 4+ years of experience. Next to no-African American diversity at the company. It's quite unbelievable given how big this company has gotten.
