Pros
Being able to work remote is great!
Cons
Recently got hired to work remotely at Americor and realized this was not the company for me. Did a phone screening through a recruiter and passed. Then did a remote interview with the two supervisors of the department I was going to. Interview questions consisted of the typical "Tell me about a situation when..." type questions. Just make sure to answer in the S.T.A.R format. Passed the 2nd interview and received an offer quickly. They sent the equipment which consists of two monitors, keyboard, webcam, headphones, and a mini desktop, not a laptop. So if you want be portable while you're working or traveling, you can't which I don't like. Orientation lasts a whole day and they demand you have your webcam on for the entirety of the orientation which was from 9am-5pm. The orientation reminded me of taking a financial literacy class from high school, I thought it was unnecessary and wanted to jump straight into learning my actual work. They went over remote work from home internet requirements and mentioned that you needed to have hardwired internet. A lot of people in the orientation mentioned they were never told this in the interview, including me, and the orientation leaders said that you don't need hardwired if your wireless internet speeds were fast enough. They also mentioned that if you have Verizon home internet or T-Mobile 5G internet, you needed to switch to another internet provider in order to work with their systems. I thought this was pretty scummy as none of these requirements were ever brought up in interviews, and many people mentioned this. In addition, the orientation went over how the company uses Time Doctor to monitor your every move, take screenshots of your desktop to see if you're actually working or spending too long on an assignment, and whether you're using mouse jigglers or other programs to pretend to be active and keep your computer on. I am fine with quotas and as long as I get all my work done for the day, why do you need to observe my every move? Just fire the ones who don't get their work done and stop treating the rest of us like kids. The department I got hired in also had a google chat where you need to announce every single time you take a break, your lunch, or step away from your computer which I also found annoying. There were team meetings every day as well. And when I attended my first team meeting, my supervisor mentioned how overtime wasn’t mandatory, but that they needed at least 6 people, possibly more for the upcoming Saturday. So be aware of the not mandatory but mandatory overtime, because I assume if no one volunteers but they still need people, they would end up making some people work overtime. Luckily, I only wanted to try to supplement my income working here at Americor so I used PTO from my current job to work here for a few days to see if I liked it. For my actual current job not working at Americor, I work remotely and I do have a daily quota but they actually trust us as adults to get our work done. We have one team meeting every two weeks, and if we have to step out of the house or even if we take lunches or our paid breaks longer than we are supposed to, my supervisors don't care because they know the entire team gets their work done every day. We don't have to stay active on our computers and we are not being monitored every second of the day, I can actually be independent the whole day. And for my orientation there was NO orientation, I was able to start shadowing my coworkers and learning how to do my job immediately. So overall, I would say skip working here at Americor if you don't want to switch internet providers, be monitored every second, and waste time in orientations that last an entire day learning information that does not apply to you or the job you'll be doing at Americor. All for the super super low pay of $16 an hour! Barely above minimum wage. At my current job I get paid $21 an hour to work remotely and don't have to deal with any of the cons I listed here for Americor.
