Pros
Chance to work, if one of the "selected ones" with recent operations/manufacturig tech. No longer the latest, cutting edge. Oportunities are no longer available to pick. Given the current employment opportunities available locally, having a job is positive. This fact is used daily as a palliative.
Cons
Selected ones: the ones in the eye of Directors and above levels, get the few chances to grow a career. Management has a lot to learn about managing employees, usually there because they were good handling the hectic workload and sacrified their off-work life to get the promotion... no real management skills. So, successors need to work more, and sacrifice much to be seen as candidates... not the ones with proven people skills. Employee Burnout is not taken care. Water cooler conversations are sponsored quietly as a way to share information about health, promotions, management, terminations, etc. Benefits have fallen to a me too stance... we'll see what other companies offer and we offer the same and lately... less. Profits are the new north... Amgen values are mentioned less and less, and those values no longer are the driving force. Don't think as a place to work until retirement... you'll be outsourced. Each year, you will earn less and less, as no cost of living adjustments are done. Proof? No raises this year for management, and surprise... non- managers were treated the same... but management gets three bonuses anyway. Performance appraisals are dead ink, a worthless exercise.
