Pros

Great pay and family focused environment (annual bbq's, family events, etc.). Young culture also present, definitely an entrepenuereal ambiance present. Has not converted to large cold big corporate culture yet, but is showing signs of this transition. Many opportunities for someone proactive who wants to develop other expertise, but this depends on individual ability to reach out to other departments.

Cons

Long hours. Constant access via blackberry, laptop, mobile. Slowly moving towards large corporate mentality. Meaning there is a movement towards compartimentalizing each department. This affects intercompany mobility and is starting to affect individuals from further developing in areas not originally hired for.

Pros

Amgen has a lot of money for now and it is more stable than other companies in this industry. The pay is supplemented by generous bonuses and most people don't kill themselves to do their job so even a small amount of extra work stands out.

Cons

You get bucketed very quickly and there is no way to move up very high in the organization from very low no matter what you do. These people got lucky with a few very profitable drugs but are totally clueless about drug discovery. You will not learn from your superiors -- you will teach them.

Pros

Amgen is good promoting work life balance. The Thousand Oaks campus is nice. And the annual compensation packages seem to be generous.

Cons

Amgen has shown poor communication decisions made by HR and senior management. Multiple locations make it difficult to communicate and collaborate and colleagues across the country.
