A Great Place To Work

Pros

- Culture - Career Development - Benefits - Work-Life-Balance. - Dedication to helping society

Cons

I can't think of any major cons. Technological and Organizational change is a necessary and difficult thing for all companies. There are always going to be pain points when it comes to enacting change. I think mid-sized carriers tend to have mid-sized resources for enacting this change. That being said, I think Amica does a good job communicating their plan for balancing available resources when it comes to change.

Pros

Friendly coworkers and management. Decent pay. Flexible schedules.

Cons

They got a new CEO back in 2022 and went from service-centred to money-centred. It was really hard to listen to the members who had the same insurance for 40 years complain about being priced out or having poor service.

Great place to work

Pros

I thoroughly enjoy working for Amica over the past several years. It's not a perfect place, but I know that the grass isn't always greener at other companies. We work a 37.5 hour workweek (likely more for exempt employees, but that is baseline). Amica treats their employees well (countless company cookouts, subsidized iced coffee and cafeteria, pickleball tournaments, etc.). They care about their wellbeing and career advancement. There are great benefits and admittedly it's hard to remember them all in order to take advantage. The people are what keep me here. Some of the best people I know work for this company and have helped mentor me throughout my career. They have helped me through some of the toughest times in my life. I know that is not common. Also, I feel that I am compensated fairly for the work that I do. Lastly, having a fitness center with lunchtime classes is a huge perk.

Cons

Sometimes the culture can get the best of us, both in a sense of how work gets done and flexibility at work. We strive for perfection and can suffer from analysis paralysis. I do feel this is with good intentions. When it comes to the work that's being done, we want to be sure it's what makes sense for our customers, but that can cause delays in providing them with beneficial features. When it comes to employee flexibility, we want to ensure consistency across the organization, but this can cause perceived inflexibility that is not truly at "manager discretion." These things make sense but sometimes go a bit overboard.
