Falling apart - the values are a sham

Pros

It started out really great, with the snacks and nice people.

Cons

Then I realized it was just a show. Projects are understaffed which leaves the few of us there to do work that we do not even know how to do and makes everyone overworked. Then management decides it would be funny to remind us that "this is the best job we'll ever have" they actually said that. All the talk about corporate values and what the company stands for is a sham: Excellence? If by that you mean the CEO micromanaging the margins on your Powerpoint slides. Joy? They think that having a keg in the office is joyful. And weird happy hours where we go drink and pretend this is all ok. The 50+ hours you will be spending working during the week on top of a handful of hours dedicated to stressing out because of something management told you are not joyful. Profit? Pay disparity is a real problem, women are not paid as much as men. Many people are overpaid. I am not even sure if the company makes a profit.

Pros

Good location downtown close to metro

Cons

The entire company suffers under the weight of a mean and extremely incompetent CEO. Where do I even begin? He plays employees against each other, by gossiping (often blatant falsehoods), asking others what specific people think about him, and asking people he trusts to be his “allies” in trying to quell any sentiment against him. He lies to his employees about other employees (for example, chalking up mass exoduses of employees as his doing instead). He doesn’t have a shred of self-awareness. When things at the company go well, it’s always HIS “genius”. When they go poorly, it’s always the ineptitude of the people beneath him. He makes himself out to be blameless in literally every situation — be it a culture that fosters blatant misogyny, or failure to properly deliver on a product or project. He screams and he insults people constantly — to the point where he himself believes everything is their fault and nothing is his. I have never worked in an environment where so many people have CRIED because the CEO is so stubborn in his persistence to break down people's characters. His approach to work is absolutely totalizing. He will call employees late into the night (long after they have left the office or even on weekends) to gossip or vent about his problems and inability to maintain a culture that worships him. He expects emotional labor from his employees, but lashes out at them regardless.

Terrible Leadership, CEO and COO need to go!!

Pros

Great working environment for someone who does not want to be tracked, no accountability to anyone, free food, PTO, and having a work from home attitude, hard to track progress as you can get lost in the shuffle, just act like you are busy and you will be fine.

Cons

Where to begin, the CEO is an egotistical control freak, the COO is just a sounding board for the CEO who is always questioning right from wrong. If it were not for the past lucky contracts they have had to help sustain their business, they should have and would have closed their doors years ago. They both have to go, PERIOD! They act like they care when they don't, as they can not be trusted in the long run. They also act so fake when it comes to real business opportunities as there is no process as they are flying by the seats of their pants. Hang on for a bumpy ride!!
