Pros

Amplify used to hire smart engineers who cared about education. Pay was originally low, but they fixed that. The location is nice.

Cons

At the rate "One Amplify" is going, it will soon be "no amplify". Senior leadership lied to us about the timeline and purpose of the reorg. Rumors became the primary source of news, since management communicated nothing. An entire division was gutted; the technical head of this division was promoted to CTO of the company. Officially this was to push their process on the rest of the company, but there's no one left to champion that process. Projects in the rest of the company are being shut down at a startling rate, and people everywhere are fleeing before the ship goes down. Their positions are not being backfilled. Among all of the people issues, the inconsistent wifi that prevents work from being done is just the icing on the cake.

Pros

When I joined Amplify, it was full of talented people who wanted to make a difference in education. Those people have all left, either voluntarily or through layoffs. The company is seriously financially mismanaged with a truly epic burn rate, and yet is totally disconnected from the day to day operations of staff.

Cons

- A sprawling history of cronyism. - Total disregard for taking care of existing customers. Who cares what they need? They're already locked in with a contract. - Executive bumbling as they jockey for status. - They're lumbering and slow and RFP-oriented, which means nothing you build will take into account user needs or anything else beyond getting a contract signed. - Design is a joke; promoting visual design only leads to a virtually unusable flagship product. They should be ashamed of themselves for foisting something so badly made on thousands of teachers across the country.
