Pros

Pace is consistent - not too busy not too slow

Cons

Salary doesn't compare to working at other companies plus they have a pension contribution which I lost after leaving so the incentive is not to leave but never cleared on the pension benefits.

Pros

Reduced rail travel but must pay tax on imputed income, generous time off, ok healthcare, 401k match, remote option for some, nice people

Cons

Amtrak has been underfunded since the beginning. If Congress would commit even half as much to building and maintaining passenger rail as it does paving the country, America could have a stellar rail system. Amtrak needs strong and aligned management that gets customer service and teamwork on a large scale, and needs a serious overhaul of its technology...both what it does/is and how it is managed. The internal systems are hamstrung by bureaucratic red tape from procurement and DT and the divide between management and union employees. With funding that comes and goes with the political winds it is impossible to grow and create a world class rail system. The country needs to commit to rail and commercialize operations, not privatize.
