They strongly pressure you to sign away your right to a 30 minute break for every mid-length or long shift. I never signed my right away and they still never give me a 30 minute break. They also never gave me a 10 minute break, claiming that they count any slacking off or lack of productivity adds up to the equivalent of a 10 minute break, even though I’ve never seen anyone genuinely slack off.

Customers are very entitled, the job is physically taxing, and the flow of a fast-paced restaurant can be hectic causing coworkers to be stressed and leading to frustration. The restaurant culture is very traditional in the sense that, "the customer is always right" and it's frowned upon to turn away/say no to customers. This leads to an even higher customer entitlement to treat service workers poorly.
