Pros

I met a few good people here, but the better people don't stay long.

Cons

This company is buried alive in technical debt. Cross-team collaboration is hostile to say the least. The outrageous politics have a rotating door on upper management positions. They are always hiring to thwart attrition, and have resigned to recruiting most people from offshore companies that some of the leaders have vested interest in (yes, corruption). This is a place where careers go to die.

Pros

1. Flexible and relaxed work environment 2. Pay is at par with the industry, but benefits are very constrained when you try to use them. 3. It's in a great space that is ripe for a quality growth if managed properly.

Cons

1. Middle management runs around like a headless chicken running from one issue to another and wastes a lot of time in useless meetings seeming to be very busy 2. Exec Management has absolutely no clue as to what is happening below. They rely solely on whatever BS that gets fed to them. 3. Bottom line, Management from top to bottom is horrible and rife with infighting and politics. 4. Most of the talented people have left and the show is being run by mostly sub par run of the mill people. Some pockets of good have been sidelined and taken over by mediocres. 5. Constant layoffs and re-org has inflicted low morale in the remaining personnel. 6. Absolutely no personal growth or training provided to the employees.

Pros

There are still a few folks that work there that think it is possible to change the world - contact with one of those folks is like touching a star.

Cons

But, many of the senior-most management are SO disconnected from what the foundation of a university is... there is NO culture of 'correction of error'... its always the next thing and no one addresses real fundamental operational issues or talks about mistakes (its one thing to get chewed out... its another to brush everything under the rug). The are making up a lot of strategy as they go... and relying on a lot of slick powerpoints that, pretty much say the same thing as I'd expect from any MBA class (in x years, we are going to be [insert aspiration]...) but there is little linkage of strategy to action.
