Great Company Culture

Pros

The company takes culture seriously and everyone is helpful to people coming in. Company success is a team effort and all employees are shareholders. The onboarding process is extensive and depending on the role some people will not join their team for three months given product training experiences. Be aware that this is a challenging company who have built an entire application building and process management platform. Becoming product-knowledgeable is necessary to really be effective in any product role and this takes plenty of time and effort up front. However, the effort is rewarding for one who is seeking a challenge. If you're looking to coast by this is not the company for you. The company used to be D.C. headquarters-centric, but has expanded to hire fully remote people since the pandemic. Transitioning to a fully-remote-friendly culture is a work in progress, but will get there.

Cons

So far there are no cons, unless you are looking for an easy gig. It's a fast-paced company and the demands on product managers are many.

Pros

-The work is interesting and requires critical thinking to come up with creative solutions for obstacles that arise. -People respect work/life balance -Expectations are reasonable -Smart and helpful co-workers -Management seems to genuinely listen and make changes based on employee feedback.

Cons

-Salary/Bonus/Raises could be a little bit higher, but I certainly don't feel like I'm being underpaid.

Pros

Appian has a fantastic, welcoming culture. Everyone I encounter is eager, smart, and optimistic. We are encouraged to push back and drive a culture where the "best idea wins". Amazing work/life balance and the perks are on the level of some of the biggest and most well known companies around. Gorgeous, easy to get to, office campus in the outer DC suburbs with every amenity you could possibly want - plus a very flexible remote work policy if that is what you need. Even though founded in 1999, you get the sense that we're just getting started, like the business is only a few years old. Some may say this "start up" feel is a con, I see it as a plus. The potential for what this company can be is endless and you feel that something big is on the horizon. I feel every day that everyone I work with is ready to make that something big happen through hard word, collaboration, and determination. Loads of affinity groups for anything you might be interested in or passionate about. Endless top down communication, I never feel out of the loop.

Cons

-The work titles people are given are somewhat arbitrary. A lot of managers and directors but the level and type of work amongst them all is inconsistent. -I hear rumblings of lower than average yearly bonus compensation and lower than average salary increases. Perks and stock might offset this for some. -Generous stock benefits but the stock has trended downward recently so its hard to get excited about it at times. -Messaging changes several times throughout the year, creating a bit of inconsistency and confusion in the market. Ask anyone what Appian does and you'll get a different answer every time. -Good bit of veteran talent stuck in "this is how we've always done it mode" with a lot of new talent coming in with new, big ideas leading to tension between the new and old guard. There's been some turnover recently and I suspect this might have something to do with it. -I'd personally prefer a downtown DC or closer in suburb office but its not a deal breaker given the WFH policy.
