Pros

The company is in an amazing industry, ranks incredibly high in Gartner and Forrester reviews, has amazing people, product, values, except... company has insane gossip problem. Many talented individuals have terminated short of reaching amazing potential because management strategy to deal with problem is poor. Advice is to "just don't get involved" or "just ignore it"

Cons

Thank for you taking the time to comment on your experience at Appian. I'm sorry to hear that you've encountered problems with workplace gossip. We've worked hard for fifteen years to create a collaborative work culture and we take these kinds of issues very seriously. I would ask that you report your specific concerns directly to Debbie's team -- they will be treated confidentially. You are also always welcome to come speak to me directly so I can better understand your particular situation and take any other appropriate steps. My door is always open. -Michael, Co-founder & CTO, Appian

Pros

If you're a self-starter, you will have the opportunity to see what you can do.

Cons

Most of the top contributors at Appian have moved on. The region I was in has shrunk dramtically, and a revolving door of CRO's has changed what was once a great culture (the regime I was in lost huge deals by trying to force propsects into unrealistically larger commitments). In this economic climate, no company can afford to think they can dictate deal terms to prospects and expect to win.

Pros

- Strong engineering and company culture - excellent WLB, people prioritize personal lives - Flexibility in working hours (start early or late) - nice team match based on your interests - fun intern events including visiting the CEO’s penthouse apartment in Arlington - You’ll get to work on projects and tasks with impact, not just an intern summer project - valuable mentorship, especially through pair programming and proactive goal setting - smart interns and peers, high GPA, good schools. Good networking

Cons

- communication regarding remote work. First, we were told we would have a hybrid experience 3 days in person. Two weeks before the internship, we were notified full in person. With no flexibility. This meant some interns had to use time off without pay when they were planning to use remote work days. Unattractive when hybrid is the industry norm. - Less applicable tech stack. Appian proprietary SAIL code is front end heavy and not so transferable. - Most importantly, be aware of the low return offer rate. Something like only 20% of interns received a return offer. Previously it was almost always 100%, so this may be indicative of changing company viability or priorities. While some interns got return offers in September, many interns were left in the dark about return offer status for over 6 months until March before being told no.
