Pros

My tenure at Arcadia has allowed me to collaborate with some incredibly talented individuals, both locally and internationally. However, it's disheartening to acknowledge that these positive experiences are overshadowed by systemic issues deeply ingrained in the company's fabric.

Cons

Superficial Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB): Company leadership chose to lay off their newly hired Director of DEIB within their first year of tenure without any plan to backfill the position. This speaks volumes about the company's superficial commitment to its purported values. This action not only undermines the very essence of 'Build for all' but also casts a long shadow over the sincerity of the company's pledge to foster an inclusive culture. Misaligned Leadership and Erosion of Core Values: The recent departure of key executive members, including the CFO and COO, signals a troubling lack of faith in the company's direction and leadership. This exodus is not just a red flag; it's a siren call, highlighting the severe disconnect between the company's stated values and the reality of its operational ethos. Ethically Questionable Offshoring Practices: The strategy of laying off tenured US employees that built the company in favor of offshoring labor at salaries well below market standards is a glaring testament to the company's ethical degradation. While cloaking this approach under the guise of building a 'global workforce,' the reality is starkly different. This practice is not about fostering international collaboration or respecting global talent. Instead, it's a clear exploitation of economic disparities, leveraging the most cost-effective labor without regard to fair compensation. Product Direction and Vision in Limbo: The lack of a coherent product vision and a clear market fit raises serious questions about the viability and future of the company. 'Build for simplicity' and 'Build for good' remain as mere words when the core offerings of the company are shrouded in ambiguity and uncertainty. A Culture Marred by Fear and Instability: The prevalent culture of frequent layoffs has instilled a pervasive sense of fear and instability among the workforce. This environment is antithetical to the principle of 'Build together' and erodes the very foundation upon which collaborative and innovative teams are built. Arcadia has deviated so far from its proclaimed values that they now seem like a distant, faded memory. The pattern of decisions and actions taken by the company paints not just a bleak picture, but a forewarning to those still on board and those contemplating joining. For current employees, it's time to recognize the writing on the wall: the future here is not just uncertain, it's untenable. Seeking opportunities elsewhere isn't just an option; it's a necessary step towards self-preservation and professional growth. For prospective employees, consider this a clear signal to steer your talents and ambitions towards organizations where integrity and respect are not just touted, but tangibly practiced. Arcadia's trajectory seems set on a downward spiral, one that shows little sign of reversal. The time for change has passed; now is the moment for moving on to better, more ethical, and sustainable opportunities. To remain is to cosign a toxic culture.
