There's a large company culture to push people to work late and weekends all the time. People brag about how many hours they've worked and been away from their families. If you're lucky enough to have a good manager who doesn't care about that, your manager will still take the heat for it.
The company doesn't appreciate the IT employees, except maybe a handful. After 4 1/2 years of working there, my salary raised 4K from when I started. And that was with a promotion/title change. I was told that raises would be bad because the whole company's still struggling from the recession, and then weeks later was told by the CEO at a company party that we're doing great, one of the best in the industry. But IT doesn't bring in the clients and make the big bucks like underwriters, so we don't matter as much.
