Pros

Have a direct impact with sick and injured pets

Cons

Other than the standard non profit 'under paid and over worked', management is incredibly toxic. Constant micromanaging, spying on cameras, reading messages when computers are left unlocked etc. Extremely condescending communication, and standards are extremely unclear and all over the place.

Pros

Amazing coworkers, learned a lot, very rewarding working with the animals so long as the bosses stayed out of it.

Cons

Don’t work here if you want to not only have opinions but be free to express them. Management doesn’t want to hear anything but “yes, I agree”. They treat you like a child and then write you up if you get upset by their rude treatment. They will ask you to put work in on dogs, letting you think there is a chance they won’t get euthanized, all while conversations are happening behind your back. They constantly exclude the people doing the work, gathering the information, talking to sources, creating plans for the future. Management then decides to euthanize for the same reason the dog was first put on your list. So all your hard work was a waste of time. They ignore whatever you accomplished and even lie about the animals in order to justify euthanasia. Critiquing their work is considered unprofessional. They actively avoid and reject feedback because they can do no wrong. The managers will use any little thing you say against you. If you admit to any sort of flaw they will then latch on to that and apply it to every criticism they give you, trying to gaslight you into believing you are the problem. Do not talk about mental health around the manager because they will twist your words and use it against you. Some managers seem very uncomfortable with people being open about their mental health and will suddenly label everything you do as part of your illness. Managers also will tell you that “other people” have complained to them or looked uncomfortable with your behavior. Yet they never have anything to back that up. And if you point out that your team has expressed their support to you, managers will just tell you that your team is lying to you.
