Pros

Health benefits and tuition assistance.

Cons

Directors/Deans rarely have management skills. A tenured professor does not always equate leadership abilities. Parking fees are high. Overworked which can lead to little energy to pursue a degree with your tuition assistance. Bad apples are hard to fire because the university has horrible HR follow through on the school or college level leaving performance issues unaddressed formally. Poor professional and ethical behavior can lead to quality people leaving

Not worth it - pathetic college for students - waste of money to come here

Pros

The only pro is that it's slightly cheaper (and I mean slightly, not a lot) than most top schools. And that it's closer to the west coast and hence silicon valley.

Cons

- The rate given to student workers is far less than most other colleges. - Positions for RA are extremely few. - TA is given only to Thesis students and not MCS even if they are over qualified for the job. - There is no work appreciation. - ASU as a college wants your money and has the system of Pre-requisites that no matter how well you do on a test out exam, they'll make you pay. - Lastly, bad news for students - It has the most pathetic course selection system in the world where you hardly ever get the courses you desire. Your MS is based on luck. Very few professors are good at what they do and you'll almost never get their courses on first try. You need to be extremely lucky. - Oh and the career fairs at ASU are utterly useless and a waste of time and energy

Pros

The university really tries to make it possible for everyone to attend university no matter where a student comes from or what their readiness is. The tuition benefit is a nice perk! My family is here because of the tuition for our kids, otherwise we would be long gone. Even though the state of Arizona is an "at will" state, there is some job security as long as you do your job.

Cons

Know that pay is terrible compared to the ABOR-approved peer institutions. There are no real prospects to advance your career because it is a crapshoot! Advancement opportunities are kind of dangled like a carrot to a donkey in a parched desert. Make sure you negotiate your salary well because it won't change much no matter how long you stay here or how high you perform. The staff turnover is very high and that leads to a very impersonal environment. When people quit be ready to pick up lots of slack. If you are lucky, the management MIGHT thank you for filling in the staffing gaps. Many employees are demoralized with the "top-down , do it or else" environment but they seem to plod along for the tuition benefit.
