Pros

Fairly frequently catered lunches, and you can get the BOM to order some frivolous items for you with the right justification

Cons

Good luck getting any competent coworkers. Most employees are nepo babies, either through their actual parents or through being a student at ASU (with no work experience). Genuinely, most coworkers I've come across have been shockingly incompetent in both their job and daily life.

Pros

Good retirement, time off, health benefits, tuition reduction. I love my coworkers and I do feel like I can talk to leadership pretty easily. You get to make a difference in students' lives which is amazing.

Cons

I love my job working with students who want to study abroad. However, the amount of stress and work for the amount of pay just does not feel balanced. I know that leadership does their best to but ultimately being in the Higher education sector just has be because youre passionate and not for the pay. Of course if you are able to work your way into leadership that is a bit of a different story. But not always easy to do and takes quite a while (and lot of work).

Pros

I enjoyed working in higher education. My supervisor is an advocate and I enjoyed working with him.

Cons

They could care less about your happiness or career growth, so long as your position fits within their career architecture. My position was "demoted" without any explanation or input from my supervisor, which changed the min required years of experience for my position from 7 to 5 and lowers the salary range. How they can do that 4 years into the job without my boss' approval or input is beyond me. I've recieved great evaluations and have been recommended for promotion but this seems punitive. Regardless of the fact that their own staff manual states staff cannot be demoted, this word remains on my record.
