Pros

Arizona State University is a great place to work as long as you are in the right department or unit. One of the top places is the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. They are well funded and overall very professional. When ASU talks about a leader in innovation, many of those accomplishments are happening in these schools.

Cons

If you are in the wrong area, working for ASU is a nightmare. The College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA) is one of those places. The Dean in CISA created a clique-ish work environment that felt more like a high school than a professional workplace. Her Executive Director lies and she has employed a "project manager" whose only true role seems to be to spy on employees. By far the most unprofessional environment I have ever been in. There was a mass exit when the new dean came on board and I chalked it up to people not liking change. However, connecting with others since leaving CISA I have learned they all experienced the same childish behavior and mismanagement.

Pros

Good work/life balance Good benefits Co-workers are very nice

Cons

Since salaries are so low, you are often working with people who are unqualified for their jobs. Management from the top down does not value staff. Growing the organization while minimizing costs is the priority. They talk about professional development opportunities, but advancement comes slowly. You have to threaten to leave to get a promotion.
