Pros

Greatly Depends on Unit: Great training, strong friendships, decent pay, public service, partial benefits, possible full time positions and college support.

Cons

Greatly Depends on Unit: Training can conflict with college, some units do not focus on public support and homeland defense (instead focus on overseas combat), some units train 2 days a month while others train 4 days a month, unless deployed there is no real veteran benefits, training and equipment depends on state funding and not on federal funding and a lot of non cost effective activities such as their waste control..

Pros

Very excellent pay and benefits- equivalent to most careers requiring a 4 year degree. Excellent amount of vacation/paid days off available. Excellent medical plan. GI-Bill is awesome. There are few truly qualified and hardworking personnel. The facility supervisor was truly a good supervisor, but was unable to both balance his own work and with managing inefficient subordinates- some key superiors above him were toxic.

Cons

Widespread practice of favoritism by senior personnel. Several cliques or "Good old boys" groups exists that made it a toxic environment.Preference to employees that are into alcohol use. An open and unsecure facility, old and worn- roof leaks. Too many unhappy personnel (maybe 70%) with personal problems affecting their professional work- marital problems/infidelity, financial problems/debt issues, heavy alcohol use, family problems, etc.
