Pros

Great Operators to work with

Cons

Management, management, management! terrible equipment to work with! I have seen countless times equipment fail because a lack of funding and actually repairing according to procedure. The safety culture is atrocious! Iv seen too many terrible injuries because of the lack of training and faulty equipment. And if you happen to get hurt even if you did everything 100% according to procedure you’ll still get written up or fired and they will lie to your face saying you’re valuable but get rid of you for any little inconvenience. During Covid they would tell you they will do everything they can to keep you employed but walked around and would run you off if you didn’t wear a mask correctly even though it’s over 100+ degrees in most work areas. There is just too much to list here but also don’t believe the 5 star reviews that’s corporate leaving those lies on here to get people to hire on when in reality people are turning down jobs to avoid this place including operators and engineers. DONT work here.

Disappointing in Decatur

Pros

Pay & Benefits. Some of the people are really good friends. Convenience to get to work for the good location.

Cons

No direction, no longevity (anymore), no communication, no opportunity. Operators and technicians are treated like expendable machines. Positional structures may change at any time. One may take a new opportunity with promises of a bright future only to be worried if you will still have a job because of a decision to change personnel positioning. Almost everyone feels like a huge target is on their back. Management asks for feedback but who in their right mind is going to actually speak what they really think? In a matter of months that person or persons will find themselves permanently at home for some reason. I'm just gonna do my job and keep my head down and go home to my family so that I can keep my family fed, roof over our heads and bills paid.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, and thank you for your commitment to Ascend for the last 10+ years. I am disappointed to hear that you don’t feel like you can share your feedback openly and honestly with management. I can help. I have been hosting skip level meetings at our sites to learn from employees about their experiences, and I’d like to hear from you directly (and confidentially). Please reach out at ajahn@ascendmaterials.com. Thanks.

HR Running the Show

Pros

No many; unless you keep your mouth shut and don't get on HR's bad side. Good employees, scared to open their mouths.

Cons

Local HR runs the place, not sure how they got to the top but don't make them mad. Now on our 3rd plant manager since HR showed up. Once they understand the mindset and start questioning the ethics, job knowledge and hours worked, some how they end up leave. Hope the next one knows whose toes not to step on

While I don’t know the specifics of your concerns, I am reminded of a quote from Simon Sinek: “To earn trust we must extend trust.” Thank you for sharing your experience. If and when you are comfortable reaching out, I would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust. All the best, Malcolm (moneal@ascendmaterials.com, 713-315-5795 office/direct)
