Pros

AskNicely is a really well-built software. Our product team constantly makes improvements. My co-workers are awesome. One of the best things about AskNicely is the company culture. The sales leaders are awesome. They are knowledgable about sales methodology and always have our backs.

Cons

I wouldn't necessarily call this a con but could be perceived as a con if you haven't worked in a startup before. Things are always changing. It's a very dynamic environment.

Thank you! It's awesome to see you call out how teams support each other to keep moving forward which is just so critical when, as you point out, things are always changing. The Maori people of New Zealand have a proverb that goes "He aha te mea nui o te ao, he tangata he tangata he tangata." The meaning roughly translates as "What is the most important thing in the world, it is the people, the people, the people."

Pros

Since I joined AskNicely, I can feel and see that AskNicely is so different from any other organisations I worked for. The eagerness to improve and to find new ways to do things is the one which stands out. Moreover, the AskNicely way of putting as number one priority the well-being of their people and removing the barriers for them to perform should be regarded as an example to the industry. The quick action AskNicely did on nearly every feedback should be praised too. I remember at the early day when I started, I asked for clearer roadmap and company vision, I saw AskNicely responded and provided that to the wider team in short time. That’s awesome. I think it benefits the whole team with a clear picture and direction. People said plan without action is useless. That’s exactly true. Taking action is what matters, and AskNicely did it right. I’m not sure company values was covered. If not, it would be great to highlight that. For me, values is what actually drive me to work! AskNicely is also great in perceiving crisis/uncertainty ahead and take action well before anybody else which gives AskNicely an edge. Part of my oriental culture gives me that kind of sense too. It does help me to navigate the world full of uncertainties. I think it is true for AskNicely as a company too, particularly in this time. Finally, I am proud of being part of AskNicely and would keep telling people AskNicely story.

Cons

Have to resist the temptation to go into the kitchen.

Pros

I worked with some of the smartest, creative thinkers I have encountered my career across every discipline at AskNicely—from CS to Sales to Marketing—we all joined at an exciting time at the company when we were ready to innovate at a large scale that could have evolved the brand to household status in the CX-driven software space.

Cons

No one, and I do mean no one, was allowed to do their jobs with any sort of autonomy. The CEO was involved in aspects of the company, often relegated to that of an Intern at any respected company. While it could be argued that they just wanted to roll up their sleeves and get to work, it became more about control. We all sat around waiting for the day when the leadership would set us free to do the good work we had all built successful careers on. That day never came, and everyone I worked with left with a terrible taste in their mouth after suffering legitimate abuse from the leadership.
