Pros

Pay was decent and location was good.

Cons

Management in IT involved a lot of intimidation and threats. Focus was on any problem but never on positive results. Could not go to HR with confidential concerns because they would relay information back to the manager. Good example when I quit I voiced concerns in and online exit interview, but was never contacted by HR for specifics.

Pros

Associated Bank is a well known brand in Wisconsin. They have a few long term respected individuals within the bank and a handful of others that run their departments effectively by training and empowering their teams to succeed. Truly some wonderful people that want to be successful and help their customers be successful.

Cons

No culture of success or respect. Too many new leaders brought in across the bank based on relationship with top execs or where they used to work but no knowledge of business or market. Relationships are preached, but not followed because the people brought in don't have a history of creating or retaining them. They are academics or transactional bankers that believe every market is a cookie cutter and have no concept of how to scale to meet market segments and demands to create relationships. Sadly, the leadership has driven many solid employees to other banks because of the managers put in place.

Pros

Low pressure environment. You can do a minimal amount and still be employed. There are lots of low energy people who lack drive working here.

Cons

Long time executives, former hires of the previous CEO, continue to be in the organization. The commercial bank leadership lacks vision and quality. There is no strategy nor ability to differentiate. They think that being "Wisconsin's only headquartered bank" provides some differentiation and a reason to bank here. The Milwaukee commercial bank team is filled with lots of legacy players who don't do the basics to succeed, but survive because they are attached to legacy client relationships. No sales culture or new business generation at all. Credit decision team is far behind the industry on knowledge, structuring techniques and willingness to stretch for new opportunities. Overall, a D player in the market with a constant revolving door of people who come and go because the results stay the same (bad).
