Lots to improve

Pros

Good salary and bonus structure; convenient location; nice office building

Cons

Change is terribly slow. Organizational structure (a regional, rather than functional structure) is not at all efficient due to duplication of across US, EU, Japan. Many departments work in silos. Senior management lacks courage to make the necessary changes to company into the future. Systems are not harmonized across the globe, and are ancient! Most business processes need to be improved. “Globalization” is a fallacy.

Pros

Competative salary, and company winter shut down in addition to paid vacation days

Cons

Astellas' corporate culture is chaotic, with long hours. Additional hours resulting from internal politics rather than real work that contributes to helping patients. Advancement opportunities are not dependent on skills and contributions. There is no clear career path process, and mediocre performers are frequently rewarded and elevated vs. high performers. Corporate Japanese headquarters have stepped away from oversight of the American Operations the past few years, which makes it appear that they will shut down the US offices within 5 years or so. Current US top management do not hold managers accountable for processes and procedures, which allows for a bullying, competitive and inefficient work environment. Lack of allignment on departmental objectives results in many employees and departments working on the same projects in their own silos.
