Stay away if you want to keep your sanity.
Pros
The cafeteria is nice. The custodians do a great job of keeping the area clean. The outside grounds are great for taking a walk. You get one day a week to work from home. Generally, you have a good amount of flexibility to work from home. How long that lasts is hard to say as upper management doesn't like working from home. Good health benefits.
Cons
Upper management is tone-deaf. They mentioned several times how the tariffs were great for them. HR will lie to you about your salary. When I was offered my role, I wanted more money, but HR asked me to take a lower salary and said that I would get a raise at the end of the year. That raise wasn't even a full percentage even though I received an excellent review. Teams are very cliquish. I was more than willing to pass along my knowledge and offer to help when others needed it. That was not the case if I needed assistance. Teammates will tell you incorrect information about what you need to do and how Athene operates. You also ran into your teammates in the common areas and they wouldn't look at you. They'll tell you that they run at a fast pace. It's nothing but chaos. Everything is a fire, so nothing ever truly gets done unless you work outside of normal hours. Management doesn't enforce policies, nor do they even bother with best practices. Upper Management in IT is a huge security risk that no one will do anything about. They do have plenty of people making lists of other issues who do nothing but ask when a task is going to get done. Have you heard of United Way? Because let me tell you, I heard all about how great Athene is because they support United Way. I was asked about donating several times a day when they were doing their big donation push. When one person in my department didn't donate, my manager was at my desk asking if I had donated. Which I did donate, but the fact that they hunted down the one person who didn't was unsettling. HR sent all of my new hire paperwork to my work email before I started, so I was behind when I first started. When I gave notice, I was sent a survey. No one from HR spoke to me, even though I asked for a meeting. When I started, I was shown my desk and told to finish my new hire courses. I wasn't introduced to anyone. No one showed me around other than the basic walk around that was given during orientation. No one met with me to discuss their policies or procedures. Probably, because they don't have any.
