      Information Technology Professionals Beware!

      Pros

      People. Most of the IT technical professionals and some lower and middle management are excellent in spite of the dire atmosphere.

      Cons

      Everything else, Many staff were disappointed not to be made redundant recently - that tells its own story. I would strongly advise against joining in the Infrastructure team (Server, DBA skill areas). the following are also offensively bad: Investment in staff and Infrastructure, HR, Senior management

      Pros

      The single major benefit of working for Atkins is the opportunity to work on prestige projects in the UK and overseas (when internal politics does not get in the way).

      Cons

      Poor management. Within business unit there is a bad and counter-intuitive dynamic between the operations management team and the business management team. This results in the business management team spending more of their time covering their own backs than actually growing the business. This has become increasingly obvious as the market place has recovered and our competitors shoot ahead. Management are far too insular!

      Mediocre engineering consultants, nothing special.

      Pros

      The people in my local office were brilliant, but an exception to the other offices and general overall culture of the firm.

      Cons

      * IT systems are woeful, and its business systems & bureaucracy are bloated to the point that they actually prevent engineers from being good engineers. * Reasonably high fee's to clients paired with low / mediocre quality of work output, I'm sure makes some staff feel ashamed of being a part of the company. * Get the feeling that the internal PR and promoted corporate culture is basically all talk no action.
