Little in the way of career advancement and development opportunities. Felt like I'd hit ceiling after becoming Senior Consultant. All about being productive and booking time to the client. Often thrown in feeling undertrained and underprepared for role. Very stingy with training.

Work/life balance isn't as good as the company claims, not since the takeover by SNC-Lavalin. This is a particular problem because Atkins selling point vis-a-vis their competitors has always been that that the work/life balance is superior, with the trade-off being a lower salary than the likes of other engineering consultancies. However since the takeover work/life balance has got progressively worse, and in addition SNC are looking to make further cost cutbacks. I would add there have been a raft of changes at Senior Management and Director levels the past year, and as such I increasingly feel the senior management are disconnected from the employees on the ground.
