Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. Although we offer 40 hours of clinical training per national certification requirements, we are aware that the most rigorous aspects of training happen on the job. Regrettably, our post-training field support program has been paused temporarily, due to safety measures related to Covid-19. We are incredibly grateful for our supervisor team for their efforts to go the extra mile to support our newer BTs. We are excited to launch a revised, socially-distanced approach to post-training live support in fall 2020. As training is a constant evolution to meet the needs of our team members, thank you again for your thoughtful feedback!

Pros

The people you work with will be your saving grace. If you work in the clinic you’ll be fine as long as the staff are nice people.

Cons

The compensation has me nearly homeless. It’s completely unsustainable; turnover rate is extremely high and they’re trying to bring people on at higher wages than they’re paying current BT’s. Travel is bad. They’ll tell you they compensate you, but you’d be more likely to get a deduction from your taxes. Don’t even try with them; just log it and report any excess travel for work during tax season. Your personal vehicle is not covered by them in any way; you take on the expenses of wear and tear, gas, and any damage / incidents that may occur on your way to, from, or at your clients home. They have no way of keeping you safe when you’re in home; everything is reactionary instead of proactive. Clients can be physically violent. They have health insurance but I have yet to be able to afford it; I’m on state-sponsored insurance. Your mental and physical well-being and health are not priorities. They mainly care about whether or not the client is fine to keep doing sessions. Bathroom breaks are sparse, and mandatory break periods are usually eaten up by travel for most BT’s. Plan ahead and pack things you can eat very quickly in your car. Supervision can be hit or miss depending on the BCBA. Some are nice people and some aren’t. They are your lifeline, however, and when they don’t show up to sessions for an entire month it gets dicey with programs.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. It's nice to hear that you have enjoyed working alongside ALP team members. In order to engage parents and caregivers in their child's intervention, we often provide intervention services in home. We work hard to be very transparent about the nature of our work and discuss the driving requirements during the interview process. While it is true that we care about our clients, we also care very much about our employees. We support career progression and strongly encourage BTs to work towards completion of clinical competencies for advancement opportunities, as well as tuition assistance programs. Unfortunately, sometimes our client's become sick or have the need to cancel a session. If you are interested in additional hours, or make-up hours, please contact your client services team member who can work with you to secure more hours. Thank you for your dedication in supporting the clients we serve!
