Working with the public, helping those that are less knowledgeable about cars, managements inability/unwillingness to fire those that are unable/unwilling to hold up their end of the stick, no work life balance what-so-ever, retail numbers game, culture below regional management level is one that lacks respect for subordinates.

Pros

Working with co-workers. Im lucky enough to have a awesome store manager and assistant store manager Can get days of when needed %20 discount Get to help others that who need help That's about it

Cons

Were do I start? Bad pay for all the work we do. I've been here two years now as a "red shirt" and have gotten two raises totaling 31 cent. As a red shirt I have to go to other stores inventorys, do are inventory matrix, work every truck day. Also if a customer comes in and needs ethier a battiery checked ,or a check engien light read, wipers changed, or any thing else on their car looked at I have to do it..none of this is very hard but at just over$8 an hour it sucks. While the "gray shirts" on set pay or making $10.50 per-hour just stay inside in the office. "Doing paper work" 2 Wittijr Selling extra packs of grease for $1.29 "cause you need it to get the job done right" and we have grease for every thing even light bulbs. Also the check out sale. It some thing a dollar off and were exspected to sell one out of every ten coutomers. 3 Promotion Getting passed up for someone who can speak two languages. 4 Hours get cut all the time I will be scheduled for 8 hours and only get 4 cause of sales Also while I will make between 13k-17k per year. Store manager make 60k and any one higher up is in the six figures with bonus pay for performance that the pee-ons are doing. 5 Closing task Clean store, counters, bathrooms, change sale sings, ect. I know they need to be done but while I do all this for just over $8 an hour someone else stand and waits on the 5 coustomers we'll get in the last 2 hours won't lift a finger to help and gets paid over $10 an hour. Then goes over and tell you every thing you missed or did wrong.

Pros

Assisting people who want to "Do It Yourself". Good people to work with, for the most part. A store manager who is willing to work around school and other appointments (providing there is enough time to forecast it).

Cons

I too don't like the "free maintenance" that customers demand. It really burns my backside when someone who seems competent wants us to install wipers (in the rain mostly) and bulbs (mostly not easily accessible / time consuming) at the time when we are at our lowest employed with two people; AT NIGHT! Or when a woman comes into the store and purchases the above items, and their husband/boyfriend/brother/etc... is sitting in the car that could do it themself.
