      Pros

      Cool location with great outdoor access If you like dealing with huge corporate vibes and 20 years of tech debt, this is a great place to work

      Cons

      I just wasted the last year of my life working at this company. The constant gaslighting and huge bureaucracy was stifling. I was incredibly bored here. The CEO sends out emails telling everyone about how he looks up to Steve Jobs but "can't tell anyone their baby is ugly" - which in reality means that constructive criticism is not allowed and punished. The management apparatus has zero spine, and wants a "self organizing company" - which means there are hundreds of committee meetings that all dead-end with no decision made. Nothing ever gets done. I was told that they tried to refactor some stuff once and the engineers were told that they couldn't make their changes because Mel didn't like that the system "didn't work like the apps on the iPhone" - even though they make an industrial robotics system, not an iPhone. Company has zero diversity (not a surprise for Utah) and feels like they are stuck in 70's corporate America. Pay sucks for a company that just got a huge funding round and is flush with cash.

      Incredible Culture, Humble Leadership, and a Passionate Team

      Pros

      Interviewing with ASI has been a fantastic experience. They genuinely care about finding people who align with their culture, those who are eager to grow and stay humble. In my case, the position I initially applied for wasn’t a perfect fit based on my experience, but because they believed I was a cultural fit, they went out of their way to find a place for me at the company. Meeting the CEO and founder, Mel Torrie, made it easy to understand why ASI is so special. He’s one of the most humble leaders I’ve ever met. During our meeting, he asked what we valued most from previous companies and what we’d carry over if we were starting our own. He wrote down every idea and gave each one sincere consideration. So far, I haven’t met a single person with anything negative to say about ASI. Everyone I’ve encountered is not only grateful to be here, but also deeply passionate about the company’s mission. It truly feels like a place where people are valued and empowered to do meaningful work.

      Cons

      ASI is experiencing rapid growth, which is exciting but can also lead to some growing pains. The hiring process can feel a bit chaotic at times, and it might take a little longer than expected to hear back. That said, it’s clear they’re doing their best to scale thoughtfully while maintaining their culture.
