Thanks for pointing this out. Consulting can be synonymous with variety – which also means that not every project will be the same in terms of skill needed or experiences gained. However, I don't see this as a bad thing! Giving employees the opportunity to rotate skills and try something new is important to Avanade and helps keep all our employees' skills relevant in the market. Let me know if you have any more questions or comments and I'd be happy to discuss further: adam.wengert@avanade.com.

Pros

Avanade used to have some of the best employee satisfaction focus in the tech business, there are still pockets and teams that retain that culture

Cons

Accenture is taking over as a parent company. They've devolved Avanade from an independent company to a glorified department of Accenture. As a company with 300,000 employees, Accenture doesn't care if you're happy, just if you work. That's starting to bleed into the Avanade culture through the upper management that has been brought in directly from Accenture (C-level, and VP/Directors)

Pros

-Good insurance -Ok 401K -Travel (if you like travel) / Per Diem -Company Events

Cons

TLDR: New hires might not get real development experience and might be put on non development roles like being a BA. Also salary is considerably lower than other companies for software developers. To be honest I don't believe anyone should come to Avanade for a job out of college, it is very difficult to get the right experience you want. For example during ignition (the training for new graduate hires), they tell software engineers that their firt project might not be any development. Now if you hire a software engineer but do not give them any software development projects then what is the point? Management is also not the best, and many of the managers don't keep up to date with new technologies or seem to be able to actually develop. Many of the actual development work seems to be outsourced as well, leading to the software developers here mantaining more of a managment role.

Thank you for your feedback. I understand your frustration at being staffed on projects you don’t think align with your goals or skills, but our goal is not to hire to fill specific project needs but rather build a team of diverse and talented individuals. This means there may be times you are put in roles outside your specific area of expertise, or even interest. However, this also provides opportunities to grow market relevant skills and expand your capabilities, which is one of the great benefits to working in consulting. I encourage you to keep communicating with your career adviser your short and long-term career and project goals, so you can work together to find the right project for you next assignment.
