Pros

Pays weekly, temperature-controlled, they have bathrooms

Cons

I was lied to from the start and was told that we only worked "ocasional" Saturdays, only to find out that we work every weekend. The only reason I took this position was to get rid of my overtime, so I took this job (which does not pay well) only to be stuck with more hours than my higher paying job I left (to cut overtime). We are so thin that I am forced to cover 12-hour shifts for any call-offs which through the year is a total of 11 weeks (just to cover vacations) extra that I have to work 12-hour shifts, as well as every weekend, It is just too much. They split maintenance by electrical/mechanical techs, however, they expect you to do it all. They are so thinly staffed that they will work you entire shifts by yourself (for weeks) and expect you to do everything. They expect electrical techs to train mechanical techs (with no extra compensation). There are blatant safety issues, lack of any electrical schematics on equipment, rigged and re-wired machines with no labels on wiring, undefined lockout procedures on older equipment, no training program, they purchase new equipment and don't even provide manuals for the maintenance team to review, and as a final slap in the face when someone quits they post the job for $4-5 more than what they started you at. I have a 2- year degree and 15+ year of experience and I can't believe how they treat the people that keep there machines running (and keep the money coming in). It is very disheartening to think that in 2 year we will lose 50-60% of the maintenance team due to retirements, and yet they have yet to hire anyone to begin training. I don't' care if you have 30+ years of experience, unless you have worked with a printing press there is going to be a learning curve to learn the process of the equipment, yet they expect you to know how to fix everything walking in the door (I was thrown on my shift after 2 weeks, others who have no clue what they are doing were as well). I can't imagine what they will expect of us when people start retiring. If you enjoy having a life, and like money, avoid at all costs!!!!! At least I get to look forward to that $25 gift card to Kroger for Christmas!!

Pros

Decent work life balance, good benefits, overall friendly people.

Cons

Top heavy, compensation is below market range if you are in certain groups within controllers. Top management is condenscending and zero employee development or career growth unless uou are a brown-noser. Bureaucratic structure and no opportunity for upward mobility. Management only cares about cost saving by cutting employees and bumping up the value do their stock options.
