Leadership lacking

Pros

The mission of the organization is for the heart of children. The outside customer/church is using the tools and product to advance God's mission. There is a team working there that truly do have a heart for children and their jobs.

Cons

The leadership is lacking direction, old Southern good-old boys that are stuck in the 60s mindset that it's a man's world. Depressive and lacking in female leadership, this is a boys club atmosphere. They keep strong educated women out of decision making roles and nonexistence diversity of race on staff at all. The pay scale supports this in that women holding the same or higher roles, with more education and experience than male counterparts are paid considerably less. They jump from campaign to campaign without research and learning; never reviewing past wins and loses. this causes spinning of wheels and never accomplishing or finishing well.

Pros

Awana has a fantastic mission of growing youth to know, love and serve Christ. They provide amazing resources for local churches. The staff at Awana have hearts committed to the mission and passion to do their work well. I have made many life-long friends at Awana.

Cons

There are serious culture problems with VP level leadership: strong favoritism, lack of professional understanding of key disciplines, lack of listening to staff surveys, very hierarchical, directors not given authority with responsibility, hire outside consultants and new leaders as silver bullets answer to key problems. I was not listened to as a key contributor because of internal politics and gender bias.
