Pros

- Work on exciting products that help improve public safety. - Axon is a very innovative company with great prospects for growth, as evident by the stock. - Axon employs very smart engineers. - Unlimited PTO

Cons

- Awful cross team collaboration. Given everyone is fighting for time, it can be very difficult when you need something from another team. - Often work 60+ hr weeks, with no end in sight. Even on days off, it’s hard to truly relax when you are always “behind” - In addition to demanding timelines, leadership is constantly introducing more red tape to get your work done - As an engineer, I’ll often spend far more time in meetings than writing code or designing features - You will inevitably miss deadlines due to lack of time, and leadership’s solution is to introduce more red tape and meetings to “correct” the behavior, when the underlying problem is actually too many meetings and red tape

Pros

- Interesting problem space(s) - Compelling mission - Impactful work - Fully remote (as somebody who was hired in 2022 -- I believe leadership is now pushing for new hires to work on-site) - Competitive compensation - Excellent benefits ("unlimited" PTO - sometimes seen as a negative but I've consistently taken 4-6 weeks of PTO per year)

Cons

- Leadership sometimes pushes for unrealistic timelines, leading to doing things quick and sloppy and accruing tech debt - Promotions are difficult (in my experience) - Lots of bureaucracy/red-tape that can be a serious hindrance. It's for a good cause and is perhaps a necessary evil but painful and frustrating nonetheless. - On-call expectations - Compensation bands can feel unfair. You may find yourself mentoring engineers who hold a more junior title/rank than you, yet receive higher on-target earnings.

Pros

A few good managers and employees whom work hard to help law enforcement and the communities they serve

Cons

Unattainable goals and expectations for customer adoption of products and services and a cult-ish attitude by many of the program managers, believing their purpose is to “save” the public from cops. Completely backwards and out of touch with their customer—the cops. DEI became very important to management, and execs embrace ESG
