Pros

• Exposure to a wide range of responsibilities early on. • A handful of genuinely sharp and mission-driven team members trying to navigate the dysfunction. • If you’re looking to learn what not to do in compliance, this is a masterclass

Cons

• Compliance is treated more as a checkbox than a core function. Timelines and priorities often feel arbitrary, shifting based on leadership mood or optics rather than actual regulatory need • Leadership, particularly at the SVP level in Compliance, demonstrates an ego-first approach that prioritizes control over collaboration. Feedback is unwelcome, and valid concerns are routinely dismissed. • Fundamental risk and compliance concepts are misunderstood by those tasked with enforcing them, and mistakes are met with defensiveness, not accountability. • Ego outweighs expertise, and those who ask tough questions or raise issues are subtly pushed aside. • Risk management is reactive and disconnected from day-to-day execution, creating avoidable gaps and inconsistencies. • Psychological safety is lacking. Employees often operate in fear of saying the wrong thing, even when it’s in the best interest of the Bank.

At Axos, we appreciate all perspectives and recognize that constructive input is essential to continuous improvement. The Compliance department operates within a highly regulated framework where adherence to strict schedules and timeframes is not optional and is foundational to our success. These timelines are driven by Regulatory/Board requirements and are designed to ensure the Bank mitigates risk. Navigating shifting and competing priorities requires not only regulatory expertise but also a high level of organization, adaptability, and fact-based decision-making. We also understand that success in Compliance and across the organization depends on alignment with Axos’ core values: integrity, accountability, collaboration, and innovation. These values guide how we lead, communicate, and respond to challenges. While we acknowledge the concerns raised regarding leadership style, we remain committed to fostering a culture where feedback is respected, expertise is valued, and compliance is treated as a strategic function. We are actively working to ensure that our teams feel supported, empowered, and equipped to contribute meaningfully to the Bank’s mission.

Pros

Good work experience for while you're there.

Cons

The management is not the highest quality of people in terms of morals. You will get good experience, but they will work you hard while underpaying you and pushing blame onto you. Lots of gossip and lying. It's a prototypical super greed-focused workplace.
