      Meritocracy has given way to cronyism and political players

      Pros

      Still a strong core of important and challenging new tech projects and problem solving in the UK Gov business. Flashes of brilliance from individuals at the coalface.

      Cons

      Commercial business and central functions (esp. product) shy away from describing the key issues that aren't being addressed and appear more focused on job preservation and empire building than making the personally risky decisions required. New leadership hires lack experience selling complex enterprise software and services which is worsened by hiring ex-colleague yes men. Too easy for low effort and poor attitude to survive.

      They hire really talented people They do some really interesting work There is an ethos of doing ethical, meaningful work - which everyone buys into. Generally good team and inter-team working

      Cons

      Has become a political minefield Senior Management attrition has left the organisation perilously weak and fractured HR function is arguably the least competent function in the business
