Pros

Interesting projects and some very good technical people using cutting edge technologies. Good chance of progression if you want to manage people, less so if you want to stay technical. Opportunities to work abroad

Cons

Company doesn't really know what it wants to be consultancy or products business and so tries to be all things to all men on a shoestring budget. Different departments are completely isolated from each other so there could be other people in the company trying to solve a very similar problem to what you are working on but you wouldn't know and so you end up building something twice. If you do try to work across departments, it gets very political. You are expected to do extra things to help the general development of the company but everyone is resourced at >100% so this has to be done in your own time.

Pros

To be honest there are no benefits that are not available at any other software company. Free kitkats is about all I can think of. (they got rid of free drinks and biscuits btw!)

Cons

You have to sign a waiver against your EU rights to not work more than 40 hours a week. Being a Software Engineer you are required to work at least 40 hours often ~50 and the salary is only £28k.

Pros

If you want to work on projects that make a meaningful difference to the UK and not just someones shareprice you should choose Detica. If you want to develop yourself And be recognised as a specialist technical consultant (whether its in digital, data or cyber security or a market like Telco, Government or FS) rather than a generalist consultant working on spreadsheets again you'd choose Detica. If you want to innovate and you have the initiative to build your network rather than expect someone to hold your hand then you'd choose Detica. Its the expertise of the people that mean you have to up your game and you learn fast as a result. Working on projects with a wow factor, with big name clients is a big motivator. Being able to deliver on the leading edge of industry trends like digital transformation, big data, open source or cybersecurity builds confidence. I've worked for and with every major consultancy and SI and most are all talk in these areas.

Cons

Too much of the media profile relates to cybersecurity, so overshadows the bulk of what the company does.
