Pros

Detica is expanding quickly and so has a lot of opportunities opening up for new graduates and many new clients, projects and offices so plenty of variety in life.

Cons

Detica has no communication. Consultants can spend months designing new software, and then they move onto new projects and the work is either thrown away or forgotten about. Repeatedly reinventing the wheel is the best description of Detica's modus operandi. The senior managers who decided that the company should move to Guildford completely did not care about the fact that their employees did not want to go. They will very soon have a lot of resignations.

Pros

Some interesting opportunities for junior staff ( less than Senior Consultant grade); also if you like comfortable, long term assignments ( more like contracting than consulting), then this is a great place. A small number of leadership are very approachable - but the remainder often seem to inhabit ivory towers.

Cons

No real talent management programme; limited opportunities to develop new skills. High attrition among the most highly qualified operational staff. Frequent organisational reshuffles, to no obvious avail. There are many, many organisational "stovepipes" - knowledge across the business is therefore poorly communicated, and there is much reinvention of the wheel. Sometime the "new wheel" is square - a classic example is a recurrent discussion about RMADS for the commercial sector, which does not make any sense whatsever on a number of levelsAdditionally, there is little real career mobility, except interestingly in support functions such as Operations..

Pros

- Really good training in different technologies - Some very bright and interesting colleagues (lots of PhDs, top universities) - Interesting, varied work - Good, supportive management in times of crisis - Decent work-life balance - Lots of opportunity to put skills to use - A good job for a few years to learn lots of skills before moving on

Cons

- Massive recent intake of graduates has diminished quality of working environment - Operations very poor at balancing skills and interest with roles, have to know the right people to get into appropriate roles - "us and them" feeling both between offices and departments - Promotion quicker and easier in some departments than others with a lot of very inexperienced and poor people managers - Lack of support structure for experienced hires compared to graduate entrants
