Pros

How can you not want to work for an organization that saved its members $169,000,000 last year? BECU is growing and there are lots of opportunities at all levels of the organization. BECU offers great benefits, and the opportunity to give back to your community through volunteering and get paid for it.

Cons

The growth means things are moving quickly--lots of challenges to take on. If you're looking for a stodgy environment that doesn't change, this isn't it!

Flexible schedules and work life balance FTW

Pros

I can't imagine working anywhere else that would give me as much flexibility and freedom in my role- over the years I have worked all sorts of flex/compressed schedules that worked best for my family. I am able to work from home or any of our offices based on my schedule and am not tied to my desk. Something I love is that BECU is mission driven, which makes my work not only meaningful, but ties into my personal values. Employees always ask "is this the right thing for our members/employees/communities?" and if the answer is no- we are empowered to change things. I can't even count the number of things I personally have been able to change and create over the years when always keeping our members at the forefront.

Cons

Being headquartered in Tukwila is the only downside for me.

Pros

Generous compensation package, challenging work, supportive environment, skilled coworkers, continuous growth (as a company and individual), opportunity for advancement and lateral movement based on interest, community-oriented (community service incentives and a lot of community involvement), good work/life balance, executive team is very approachable and available, employee ideas for improvement are actively sought and listened two, and twice-yearly reviews make it easy to track professional growth.

Cons

Communication throughout the company could be improved (there are a lot of gaps and assumptions- for instance I know the state of the remodel every month but not what food trucks are contracted to be parked 30 feet away from me on any given day), new hires get thrown into the deep end of the pool right away (which is overwhelming and intimidating- there's training, but not a lot of initial support for new hires), yearly incentive bonuses are based on team goals which creates inconsistency (some teams set easily-reachable goals, others set highly-ambitious goals; it encourages everyone to work cooperatively instead of competitively but is frustrating to be penalized for setting the bar high), teams tend to be very much silos unto themselves- difficult to forge connections outside of individual department.
