Pros

Pay and benefits are passable

Cons

Unprofessional work environment. Employees are very rude and will not share work related information. Managers expect to be sucked up to. Software used belongs to the stone age.

Pros

Was a wonderful company that cared all of its employees. Managements and Executive were helpful and kind.

Cons

Now BECU has gone down the toilet. Push is to be a big bank not a credit union is hitting hard. Decisions are being made that hurt the employees and members. Management has forgotten what we are and who we represent. Instead of treating the staff equal it seems Eastern Washington is cut out. The CEO claims inclusive but neglects to advise to only their group. HR is Worthless as they only keep the legal issues the Execs create by pacifying and lying to the employee. Direct Management is spineless in most cases and do not stand up for their staff and often delegates their work to lower paid staff while taking credit for their work. Treatment of the East side of Washington has gotten worse. The last All Teams meeting I attended the west side got a Hot Chocolate Bar, and paid lunch. Spokane got a bag of chips. HR is proud of their 33% internal hire rate and rarely push to hire internally. We do however love to hire big bank reps in executive roles or People from other countries. We even have an Exec in IT hired from the outside that drives a Lamborghini and really likes to state that. Current trend is to cut back employee benefits and increase catering for certain groups and call this handling the Members Money properly while telling staff we need to do more with less. Most teams have so many changing targets they cannot keep up and if they could no manpower to do so. Even seen one IT exec lie to the face of a contractor who was with us for 2 years with a promise to bring him on. The contractor finally left. Do not blame them. As you can see the credit union settings are finally broken and moving to a big bank style of business.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a candid and emotional reflection. It’s clear that your connection to BECU runs deep, especially given how positively you describe the culture and leadership in earlier years. We want to recognize your concerns about transparency and follow-through. When commitments feel unclear or inconsistent, trust can erode. While decisions about strategy, hiring, and resource allocation are often complex and shaped by many factors, it’s critical that communication is clear and that actions align with stated values. Thank you again for sharing your experience. Honest dialogue—especially when it’s difficult—is an important part of accountability and growth.
