Pros

Good compensation. Some very good people still left even after the BladeLogic fiasco.

Cons

Cancerous political climate at the executive levels percolates down through the ranks- passive-aggressive behaviors are the norm. All product strategy is driven top-down and 8 layers of management ensure reality stays comfortably distant. Non-existent research and planning for products leads to high project failure rate. As a result, execution is 100% reactionary to customers and deals at risk. Plan to work nights and weekends just to stay in the game and forget about your work being recognized or the correct people being held accountable for failures. Chances are the only person blamed will be the only truly honest person involved.

Pros

Management willing to consider new ideas and ways of doing things. Good, top talent people in the org. Good sales traction means bonuses are paid, which is nice in this economy. Not everything IT/HR is outsourced.

Cons

Most IT/HR is outsourced and therefore horrible. Too many untalented people in key positions. Web site is old fashioned. Planning process is old fashioned with fixed content and hard deadlines that are regularly missed. Weird org structure with docs centralised and too many people in India. Key products don't work as well as people think.

Pros

I have a feeling that if you work in one of the company's two main offices, located in Texas or India, the meeting times may be more manageable.

Cons

I'd heard about blame-storming, but I had never experienced it before being hired at BMC. If you know how to function in that kind of environment, go for it. I would also tell any new hire at BMC to talk to a trusted HR person to help them keep track of all the information that would be necessary to form a case for why your being fired is inappropriate. I would say set aside a good hour per day to devote to your note takings -- your management is doing this so should you be. After working there, I had several recruiters comment that BMC has a habit of calling meetings that you must attend. The example given was a meeting notice that went out at about 5pm on the day a person was leaving for vacation, for a mandatory 6-7pm meeting. It was presented as a pervasive corporate habit.
