      Great mgmt can make or break your job

      Pros

      If you have a good manager, your job can be a dream. You will reap the rewards or at least be given an explanation as to why you can't be. Flex schedule, free snacks, casual dress code, garage parking, 2 gyms, 3 cafeterias, dry cleaner, company store, salon, beautiful campus. All the comforts of home right here!

      Cons

      All of the comforts of home are here because they work you unGodly hours and you NEED these perks to get by! Middle management tends to have overblown egos. My way or the highway attitude. Layoffs seem to be the only way the company knows how to shave off the overhead. Employee morale is in the toilet and managers think nothing of offering you the door if you dare to challenge their POV.

      BMC Has Become a Ship Of Fools

      Pros

      Five years ago, BMC Software was starting to gain market traction and industry recognition as a business services leader with their line of BSM products. The company also had a reputation for treating its employees fairly with respect, dignity, and compassion.

      Cons

      Over the last five years, BMC Software has degenerated into a second-rate software company that encourages employees to suceed by any means possible at the expense of fellow coworkers. The cause for most of the current low employee morale comes from the short-cited leadership practices of the ESM business-unit manager.

      Cheap company run by sales people

      Pros

      Generally a good work/life balance. The yearly bonus is nice if you are rated well The stock has done well during the recession

      Cons

      Cheap company. No salary adjustments in 2009. No surprise if none in 2010. Very difficult to get equipment needed to do the job. Despite the name BMC Software, the company is sales focused rather than software. Too many small bought up units in distributed locations which makes it very difficult to act as a single company. Inadequate technical leadership. Lack of innovation and product creation. Too many co-workers with sub par skills. Many product requirements but no funding to accomplish assigned tasks in the time desired.
