Pros

Too many to list. Overall it really is a good place to work. But the one word of warning is a HUGE one!

Cons

Do not under ANY circumstances take your first job at BNSF in an Exempt at-will position that they call "Management." Even though you may not manage anybody or anything a lot of their jobs are called Exempt "management." In other words, at-will non-union positions. You could work there 11 years like I did with great evaluations and then a new manager decides he doesn't like you. You can be fired with no reason given other than "Your services are no longer needed." Career over! But if you work even a short time in one of the many Union positions just keep paying the small union dues when you continue to promote up the Exempt Employee route. You will always have a Union job there to fall back on even if you get fired for cause from your at-will position

Pros

The company is very stable (until recent layoffs) there is some work life balance at the corporate office depending on your positon. The salary is decent but what keeps most people here is the railroad retirement and pension. There is opportunities to move around from different departments.

Cons

Leadership is not always upfront and don't tell employees the truth. The employee performance review process is a joke; the favorites or the most popular will get the better reviews/promotion. It's all about how likeable you are here and can you play the "game".

Pros

Where can you make 100k in one year with no degree!? The railroad. Went to college, got "the job", worked two years and was broke...BNSF first year 88k. On track to make over 100k this year.

Cons

If you hire out from 2014 on you will probably get cut. It just happens when you have a seniority based job. Yeah the hours are terrible, you can have a set schedule if you want one, or chase the money it is all up to you. This place is about numbers. How fast can you move from point A to point B all road employee's are meat for that grinder. But they pay the hell out of you to do it.
