Pros

Progressive work assignments (if you're in the right office) All different types of industries are touched - can help someone identify something they like, i.e. non-profit accounting, government, small business, etc. Interact with all levels of management, as well as clients

Cons

Work is very cyclical, very tedious and boring Culture varies from office to office, but just about everyone is frowning (low morale) Bonus system is a joke - you'd have to have no personal life to get a $500-1,000 bonus Forced to complete Best Places to Work survey with message to give high marks (every year) No work life balance - none, nada, zip Low employee retention, as staff with enough experience leave to get realistic careers, since the firm just hires staff straight out of college.

Pros

Great coworkers who are all willing to help even across offices and departments, a great leadership team who are humble enough to walk interns through their assigned sections, friendly admin staff and a wide variety of clients from non-profits to sole proprietorships all the way to public companies with opportunities for international travel. The firm also allows you some flexibility in your schedule.

Cons

Public accounting in general means long hours, rough commutes and not the most competitive salary. Hours (and pay) are better than big four though

Pros

Nice people, decent benefits, competitive salary. You can get a lot of good experience in 2 years (including planning and reporting) and a lot of emphasis is put on passing the CPA exam.

Cons

Sometimes good work goes unappreciated. If you don't learn to say no, upper management will recognize it and work you until you burn out.
