Pros

very supportive company especailly for working mums for example i have worked for the company for over 10 years and i have been given lots of opportunitys to progress and learn more about other departments which i have been happy and honered to do, also visiting many sites doing various jobs even though i have now gone part time i still get offered other things all the time they do not take it that as i have a child now i cant do anything else, they are very supportive if i need anything and i will always go the extra mile for them as its like for like.

Pros

Job security although this is becoming a problem now as the company seems to be putting a lot of people into re deployment. The benefits you get for working for such a large organisation are also very good such as discounts on most hosehold expenditures.

Cons

No recognition for anything as you are just seen as number. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get promoted as jobs seem to not appear on the job sites and are filled internally by people who have worked for managers in other parts of the business and are then given promotions when these managers move. Seems to be a culture of jobs for the boys creeping into corporate.

Pros

Work / Life balance is good. Autonomy of work.

Cons

There is still a civil service mentality within the business. Many people are 'lifers' and have no concept of the commercial reality of the outside world as they are protected by the unions. It is too easy for people to get "lost" within the organisation, to work for a long time on internal projects that deliver nothing. They are then moved to another "lost" role and become someone elses problem. Just like the Civil Service / Job-For-Life mentality. They should be fired.
