Pros
Been here a while and some of the pros are mainly the people you work with although mostly will be in another state. Line managers are ok too but they are starting to be replaced more often past few years. Ten paid holidays, start off with three or four weeks paid vacation and up from there. Laid back atmosphere, and managers are out of state so you see them once a year or when they do a surprise lay off and just show up unannounced. Lenient about time off, leaving early, coming in late and pretty much can do whatever as long as your work is done and done right.
Cons
Due to the laid back atmosphere it's easy to become lazy. You are not challenged, no real training. They offer an inhouse web training that is a complete joke and you are firewalled from it within most of the time. No direction for Field Services other than who is getting laid off next. More disconnect orders than new orders. No overtime, they do shifted tours but really impacting your work life balance. Also expect you to use your own vehicle for certain dispatches which is a new thing and it is a grey area with insurance as we do not have a COI. Depending on how many people per site, you could be on call for 24/7, 6 or 3 months of the year. Due to the amount you are on call and over time non existent, you cannot get another part time job because of how much you're on call. I know it's a luxury but BT can afford it. Too much corner cutting by middle management or manager. There was a time when middle management forced us to go against BT policy to save maybe a few hundred thousand by doing work during normal business hours putting major customers and corporations at risk and our job as it was handed down verbally to the lower management who were also put at risk. BT has a tendency to acquire smaller companies and drive them into the ground and put people out of work. Seen to many people lose their jobs. I know this is the real world but just sad to watch knowing these new co workers are probably on borrowed time. Health ins has declined quite a bit over the years, and bonus as well and they way it was conducted was shady. And not in Detroit, just don't want to incriminate myself.
