Toxic Culture Overshadows Everything Else

Pros

The only positive is that the benefits look decent on paper, but they don’t make up for the environment you’ll be working in.

Cons

The culture is deeply unprofessional and stressful. There is no respect for work-life balance—if your manager or leadership chooses to work during their vacation, they expect you to do the same. Workload expectations are unrealistic, and there’s no support to accomplish what’s asked. When things inevitably fall through the cracks, blame is quick and harsh. Employee concerns are ignored, and the toxic culture is hidden behind fake smiles. If you’re a woman, be prepared to be asked to take meeting notes or handle tasks outside your role because you’re seen as “helpful,” but your professional opinions won’t be taken seriously. This is not a healthy place to grow your career. *Update: even after replying to my review that they're taking steps they layoff ONLY WOMEN from the Product department. Feedback really falls on deaf ears smh

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience at Babel Street felt stressful, unsupported, or dismissive of your concerns. That is not the environment we aim to create, and we take this feedback seriously. Respect for work-life boundaries, realistic workload expectations, and professional conduct are important to us. When employees feel those standards aren’t being met — particularly around how concerns are handled or how contributions are valued — that’s something we examine closely. We want to be clear that we are already taking internal steps to address feedback like this, including strengthening manager expectations, reinforcing accountability, and creating clearer paths for concerns to be raised and addressed. We also want to be clear that gender-based assumptions or inequitable treatment are not acceptable. We expect all employees to be treated with respect and to have their perspectives taken seriously, regardless of role or background. While we know we can’t change the past, we are committed to learning from feedback like this and continuing to make improvements. We appreciate you sharing your perspective and wish you the best in your next chapter.

Pros

Pay was good, and work was not stressful, some interesting projects and lots of freedom in making my own schedule

Cons

Lots of military vets with no qualifications in the field, bringing in their friends also without qualifications, and creating cliques like it was high school. If you’re not in with the group, they want you out yesterday. Lots of tolerance and enabling of bad behaviors and disrespect in the name of “not being politically correct”. Some projects are interesting, but their main product is just scary. I know Glassdoor says this is anonymous, but I’m sure Babel will find out who this is, it’s what they do.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re glad to hear you’re enjoying the work-life balance and PTO benefits at Babel Street. We also appreciate your comments around compensation. We understand how important raises are to our employees and want to provide some context. Babel Street follows a structured focal process that occurs twice per year, with the primary cycle taking place in April. During this time, leaders evaluate compensation and promotions based on individual performance, market data, and role expectations. As with many companies navigating today’s economic environment, making balanced decisions has become increasingly complex. That said, we remain committed to recognizing and rewarding the impactful contributions of our team, and we appreciate your patience and feedback as we continue to improve. If you have additional thoughts or suggestions, we encourage you to connect with your manager or HR. Thank you again for being part of the Babel Street team.
