Pros

Compared to other investment banks, decent work/life balance.

Cons

Since the bank announced last May that the investment bank will be shedding 7000 jobs, the mood has been bad. Morale is poor. Annual rankings force each manager to classify 10-20% of their direct reports as "needs improvement". Anybody that gets this ranking is let go. In other words, every manager has to let go of people every year. The number of scandals and regulatory issues Barclays is currently involves with is embarrassing and depressing. Bonuses were laughable or nonexistent.

If you into politics I suggest congress or house of representatives - you are better off at those places, rather then at barcrap.

Cons

where to start: - long hours - while you are underpaid - crappy management - with no support or investment into your future - No promotional opportunities unless you are willing to sacrifices your morals and character

Cons

No direction, Constant Layoffs with no rationalization around the cuts. Americas GTIS head seems to survive all the layoffs
