Pros

The Deli is/was a great place for upward mobility if you are willing to work hard and smart. 5-10 years will give you practical management skills and knowledge while you earn a decent living.

Cons

The benefits and new hire pay scale had suffered from bankruptcy/restructuring during the recession before I left. Not sure if they have improved. The store I worked in no longer has any woman managers either. When I worked there 3 managers and 2 key full time positions were staffed by woman. All but one worked hard and did good jobs. My guess is, as they had been with the company for years their pay rate did not suit the post bankruptcy world.

Pros

They are really flexible with your schedule when you are up front with them about it. If you show a good work ethic and eagerness to go above what you are asked to do then you will be able to be promoted up quite quickly.

Cons

Benefits are average and compensation for the work they ask you to do is sub-par. Discipline at the store level is lacking and when they have employees who are not meeting the standards the company sets forth they shift the burden onto the employees that do what they need to do instead of dismissing the employees that are not meeting those standards and those employees that have to do more to pick up the slap are poorly rewarded for their efforts. Also it seems that corporate management is very out of touch with how a store is run on a daily basis and puts regulations in place that, on paper seem well thought out but in practice is not very practical.

Pros

Really the only positive things I can think of working here is that when you'll leave you will be very strong in the customer service department because of how strict they are towards that. Other than that I see no benefit.

Cons

The supervisors(ones that don't even work in the store) have no idea what they are doing. They are always trying to change everything and it never works out and just makes you wonder why they are in the position they are in. They blame things on you that are completely out of your control. Also another problem is never having hours so in turn you get a short shift but are expected to do the same amount of work as a full time shift.
