Pros

You have the opportunity to work on some projects that are fulfilling. In some cases, you can work with hard working individuals.

Cons

There is a clique-ish atmosphere among some individuals. You have to play a lot of petty and political games to succeed. There are way too many levels of management, which seems to groom egos. Because of politics, middle managers often delegate their work to junior employees, while convincing upper management of their success. It is a discouraging environment to work in for any length of times. For new employees there is minimal training and it is on the employee to find work. Also, new employees are reprimanded for policy questions.

Pros

As long as they figure they need you, you are golden.

Cons

Being outside of the HQ can make you next to invisible. Once they decide you are expendable, there is no place you can go--no matter what your performnance level is.

Pros

- Broad spectrum of expertise and therefore information resources - Clear growth path - Good benefits and compensation packages

Cons

- Highly political - Constant attention on project hours vs. overhead hours such that if you want to avoid the RIF list, any overhead tasks associated with your job function, including required annual training, has to be done on your own time -There is an unspoken system where certain individuals seem to be identified as leaders and fast-tracked through various roles -- in the cases I saw at Battelle,it resulted in people being in positions of leadership that they weren't ready for and didn't have the experience to support their role or the decisions they needed to be making - Ladder climbers get noticed, not the people who actually do good work (in many cases)
